Below you will find images captured at the London Community Resource Centre's Annual Picnic held at site #4 in Gibbons park, Aug. 15, 2009. Family, food and fun were the mainstays at this year's picnic, with kids games, an informational talk from Master Gardener in training Tony Rudd, and music courtesy of Bob FM. We would like to thank Tony Rudd and Bob FM, all those who came out and joined us for the picnic and a special thanks to our community sponsors, VanHorick's Greenhouse and Garden Centre, Henry's Camera, and LondonTopic.ca
A good time was had by all who attended. Thanks for coming out!
Bringing together individuals, organizations and
resources to foster community action

Thanks to all our supporters and sponsors who helped make the picnic, and many of the LCRC programs, so successful

For many who attended, the day began at 10 a.m., by boarding the bus and taking a tour of a few of the LCRC community gardens.

Information about the many LCRC programs was available through an informative static display.

LCRC student placement volunteer, Sarah, mans the grill cooking up some tasty beef and vegetarian fare for picnic goers.

What would a summer celebration be if not a picninc/barbecue styled affair. The line up was long but it was worth the wait as the delicious hamburgers and hotdogs (beef and vegetarian), as well as sausage, carrot cake, watermelon, and refreshing beverages were available for everyone who took the time to stop by and say, "Hello."

Chowin down was a top priority during the LCRC Annual Picnic

At play and at rest, families, friends and new acquaintances took advantage of the hot summer weather and the inviting shade for an enjoyable afternoon.

A shady tree and a loving hug was a nice break during the afternoon activities for this mother and child.

Master Gardener in-training Tony Rudd provided a brief, informative talk for all the community gardeners in attendance.

Even this London native, the infamous black squirrel, stood up and took notice of the fun-filled festivities that played out beneath his lofty domicile.

The kids had a blast during the afternoon picnic, with races, croquet, and a scavenger hunt, not to mention prizes for all. And of course the food... yes... the food.

Kids weren't the only ones to get in on some racing fun. Even some adults had to feel the joy of crossing the finish line.

Representatives of Slow Food London, a global NGO recognizing the pleasure connected to food, was on hand during the LCRC's annual picnic.

Lots of laugher filled the air from both young and not-so-old alike. Socializing, camaraderie and an easy-going atmoshphere brought smiles to all the faces.

This year the LCRC's annual affair truly was a family-fun filled picnic. The afternoon event catered to children of all ages and the many participants in the various LCRC programs. One of the many highlights of the afternoon was the announcement of the 1st Annual Green Thumb Shutterbug Community Gardens Photo Contest. A total of 12 winners in four different categories grabbed up on some great prizes compliments of Henry's Camera, VanHorick's Greenhouse and Garden Centre, and of course, the LCRC.

When all was said and done, the LCRC's annual picnic was a huge success and we sincerely hope that all who attended had as much fun as we did hosting the event. Plans for next year's picnic are already in the works and we're looking to make it another memorable event. Thanks to all who came out to share in our summer celebration and we look forwarded to seeing all of our friends next year. Thanks again: Staff and Volunteers at the London Community Resource Centre.
