* Why are we recruiting more CFA volunteers?

The requests for daytime and evening CFA presentations (from schools, workplaces, agencies, etc.) have increased and we are looking for new recruits to share some of the duties with our existing volunteers. We are looking for active, energetic people who have some free time to commit to the program and an interest in sharing reliable, reputable information about food and healthy eating with groups in the community during the day, in the evening and occasionally on weekends.

* How do I become a CFA volunteer?

All potential volunteers need to fill out an application (linked above) that will be automatically reviewed by the CFA coordinator. If the applicant meets the basic criteria they will be called for an interview.

* Is there a training program?

Those selected will be invited to join in our Community Food Advisor training, a thorough and rewarding program. The training program is once a week for approximately 12 weeks and involves classroom lessons, hands-on cooking lessons and presentation skills, to name but a few aspects. Volunteers must complete the training and required placements before becoming a certified Community Food Advisor.

* Do CFA volunteers need to have a car?

CFA volunteers should have access to reliable transportation in order to get themselves and presentation materials, food samples or larger display-type items to their placements.

* What else is required from a CFA volunteer?

CFAs should be organized, mature individuals who are able to work independently.  Trained CFAs are are required to only present the information provided to them during certification training and through regular updates.  This means CFAs do not endorse any particular product, brand name or store, and will share only information that is reliable and evidence-based, as provided during training.  Besides doing presentations and placements, CFAs are asked to attend meeting every second month and are encouraged to take part in group activities.  To maintain their status as a trained Community Food Advisor, CFAs must attend 2 education updates and must volunteer for a minimum of 3 placements each year.
