Session 1:  Planning 


Site Assessment:

·         Climate zone, growing season length (1st& last frosts, plant hardiness)

·         Size of garden & beds

·         Light & shade

·         Soil structure, chemistry, fertility & health

·         Moisture

·         Microclimates

·         Personal plant preferences


Pre-Season Activities:

·         Seed and plant catalogues, seeds vs. seedlings

·         Selection, quantities and variety

·         Order preparation & submission

            Head starts – windows, cold frames, greenhouses & sunrooms

February 16, 7 pm - 8:30 pm


Session 2:  Early Season


Site Preparation:

·         Soil amendment

·         Till vs. no till & soil health

·         Compost, mulch and green manure

·         Fences and supports


Planning & Design:

·         Layout considerations (size, shape, spacing)

·         Crop rotation, succession planting, cut & come again harvesting

·         Companion planting

February 23, 7 pm - 8:30 pm


Session 3:  Full Season


Growing:

·         Tools & equipment

·         Integrated Pest Management (weeds & pests)

·         Watering and irrigation


Harvesting:

·         Succession planting in action


Harvesting, storage, use and sharing
