Off the computer and into the garden!
Submitted by Carol Vandenberg, community gardener
Riverforks Garden
I wanted to let you know that I am really enjoying my first Community
Gardening experience. It’s perfect for us, because our own property is very
small and nestled under very large shady trees, beautiful, but not ideal for
vegetable gardening.
The garden really adds a new element to Riverforks Park. The view is spectacular along the river and I
love the wildlife hidden among the naturalized trees and bushes that surround the garden.
It draws more people out there at all times of the day, which helps keep away the vandals and the
transients.
It’s become a meeting place for the neighbours, rather than a hangout for troubled and bored youth.
I have met so many new neighbours and it is really enjoyable to see the young families coming out
and sharing this experience with them.
I am glad that this location was chosen, as it is walking distance for us, and gets us out of the house and off the computer!
However, having said that, I am having so much fun trying my hand at veggie gardening, that I feel the urge to blog about my
experiences and share them on the internet.
I invite my fellow community gardeners to do the same!
