The following is a letter written to Linda Davies, LCRC’s Executive Director, Aug. 19, 2009-08-19
Dear Ms Davies,
I appreciate your kindness for giving me the opportunity for a smooth integration in my new community.
Saturday (LCRC annual picnic Aug. 15, 2009) was a great day for me and I sincerely thank you for such
an inspiring, educational and recreational tour (community garden tour).
Please extend my gratitude to your staff ,volunteers and the tour bus driver. I also would like to thank
Jackie and her staff for arranging the water (for the Dillabough Community Garden) as well as the
director of Madam Vanier Centre.
I feel so lucky to have a garden that's big enough to grow some food but not too big to manage. Before
I cook a meal I always see what I can add to the meal fresh from the garden.
Growing food to me is richly satisfying - a healthful pursuit for mind, body and spirit. I look forward to
the preserving workshop (August 22, Loblaws Superstore, Wonderland Rd., N.) My sister will also attend.
I would like to participate in restricted gardening spaces, assist in workshops, and I’d also suggest that
the gardeners have a simplified manual to suit our geographical area, and a recipe book.
I am for raised beds to assist some keen gardeners with mobility disabilities.
George Bernard Shaw, even though he earned his money writing plays, stated "Gardening is the
only unquestionably useful job".
The same can be said for farming. Indeed, food production is not just useful, it is essential.
Again thank you for your kindness.
Sincerely,Tendayi Gwaradzimba
